Our new Butterfly logo has gotten a name!

Named by Johnnie J Morris, winner of our Naming Contest!

Of all the submissions we received for our Naming Contest, Akuutechem, pronounced (ah-coo-te-chem) moved us like no other. Johnnie brought our butterfly a name that honors the resilience and strength of the Tongva people and doesn’t turn away from the darkside of Los Angeles's history.

Here is the proposal by Johnnie J Morris that inspired us the most!

“What better way to honor your mission and to honor the Indigenous people of this land by celebrating the history, the resilience, strength and beauty of the Tongva people by naming the butterfly Akuutechem (ah-coo-te-chem), which means butterflies in Tongva. Butterflies are symbol of hope, healing and beauty. Los Angeles like most places has a complicated history, a darkside, but despite it all it is a source of inspiration, where our hopes and dreams of a better world, a better future become the realities we create.”
